Frequently Asked Questions...

How long is the show?

A typical show is between 15 – 60 minutes. The dancer(s) may use finger cymbals, swords, tray and/or veils. When appropriate, the show may include audience participation, for example, the guest of honor may be asked to belly dance! It's fun..but not required!

Is it appropriate for children?

Yes, the belly dance show is family friendly. Children  love to dance!

Who provides the music?

The belly dancer provides music on CD or digital music player MP3 player (example: iPod) and the venue should provide the sound system (LOUDER IS BETTER). Usually the dancer will stay out of sight until music has begun to play.

What kind of music is used?

Depending on your preference, music can range from Classical Arabic to Modern Pop.

Is tipping appropriate?

Yes, Yes, and more YESes!!! Unless.. the host  of course has requested otherwise. The dancer(s) will gladly accept tips. Tips may be tucked into the dancer’s belt,  or a Vase/Basket may be provided instead to drop money in. Another exciting and fun way is to toss money above the dancer like confetti. This is called a “Money Shower”. Funds are collected after the show. Audiences love to see this....Kids love to collect for the dancer (s).  Ask me...what this entails?

How far in advance should I make the booking?

It is always better to book the show sooner than later. If you are flexible about the time that the show begins, last minute shows can be arranged. However, Saturday and Sunday evenings/nights,  and during the Holidays, Wedding Season (May – September) tend to book quickly.

What about out of town and international shows?

Basinah and friends live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Shows outside of Northern California will need to be booked  well in advance and PAID IN FULL before departure.

What kind of payment is accepted?

CASH, (Credit Card swipes subject to a 10% process fee)  Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and PayPal also invited
